Large Scale Paintings with the Gel Plate Mini Workshop

A Master Class for Creating Large Scale Paintings with Any Size Gel Plate!

I am so excited to invite you to join this special master class where we will apply the Gel Plate as a Mixed Media Tool for Large Scale Artwork. I will teach various techniques that will include collage and printing directly onto large substrates. We will use paper sizes of approximately 24 X 30 inches. Incorporating new and existing Gel Prints in to the collage process, over printing, & building up rich textures with stencils, stamps, paint brushes and other mark making tools. These techniques will result in a finished piece of art with a complex, lush and richly informed surface.

In regard to classes that focus on teaching Gel Printing techniques, most tutorial videos show techniques that stay within the constraints of the plate. Yet, what happens if we wish to create art on a much larger surface?

This workshop will help you think outside of the dimensions of your plate so that you can use familiar techniques to create a large scale painting that is, for example, 4 by 4 feet, or even scroll length. You will learn to work as big as you wish.

You will learn to use the plate as a mixed media tool, rather than an end-all tool.

In this master class, we will look at this process from the perspective of a painter. We will use paintbrushes and other mark making tools.

Large-scale Gel Printing is a game changer, but artists face new challenges such as the dry time of paint and the scale of familiar stencils and stamps that they usually use on the plate. Together we will explore all the “troubleshooting” that may arise with the techniques so that your personal process will be a smooth and graceful experience. Furthermore, we will explore familiar genres such as mask-making and color-blocking.

As mixed-media artists, of course we love the variety of textures that bring interest to our artwork. We will be working with a variety of paints to accomplish this.

The fun does not end there though! We will also be working on large-scale collages. These will be based upon standard size gel prints on specific kinds of paper that can be adhered to materials, such as canvas and woodwork, that are often used for large-scale artwork.

This course includes two pre-recorded sessions and a replay of a live session.
